Reading is a vital part of learning- it is the key to success in life. Parents and educators, naturally want to encourage good reading habits in order to enhance children's learning experiences. But, there may be times when children require more motivation and encouragement, for example when they are returning to school after a vacation.

However,  Spark family hair salons barber Courtney Holmes, in Iowa, had a unique idea, which has become an inspiration to children, and also very popular. His idea is to give a child a free haircut, with one condition. That is, they must read a book to him, in order to receive their haircut- totally free

The children, ranging from Kindergartners through to Fifth graders, are very excited by this unique enterprise.

When USA Today asked about his project, Holmes, had this to say:

"The kids would come in, and I would say, ‘Go to the table and get a book you might like, and if you can’t read it, I’ll help you understand and we can read it together,To be honest, I was amazed,” he said. “The line started with four kids, and next thing I knew it was like 20 kids, all waiting for a haircut and eager to read.”

Holmes, himself a father of two, has also taken time out from his work in order to take part in community events, who  are involved in helping children prepare the the school year.

While some children breezed through their chosen book, others struggled.
