The Cat Island, officially called Aoshima, is a small and quite remote island situated in southern Japan, as part of the Ehime Prefecture. The cats on the island outnumber humans 6 to 1 and this is how the place got its name. Recently due to bad weather conditions, the food supply service on the island was put on hold and that disturbed the residents. In order to prevent the feline-uprising, the locals asked for help using Internet.
“Please, send cat food to Aoshima,” a cat caretaker wrote on Tweeter. “Here on Aoshima we have no stores to buy food. The people buy their necessities by taking a boat to the mainland. Due to the extremely windy winter our boat service is often suspended.”
Several days later, the island was overwhelmed with donations. The following Tweet said “Please, stop sending cat food supplies to Aoshima. We got much more than we ever expected, and we have no more storage room. We’ll be fine until April. Thank you all very much.” So, thank you Internet!
