Juravinski hospital in Ontario, Canada is now allowing pets to visit their seriously ill owners. The hospital starting working on a program called Zachary’s Paws for Healing, that was launched by Donna Jenkins. The lady got her inspiration by Zachary, her 25-year-old nephew, who benefited greatly from having his dogs around him while he was battling the serious illness of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“We know that when patients see their pets, these improves their vital signs, reduce the depression levels and the feeling of isolation. It also opens communication back up and is also a reminder for a reason for the patient to get well and return home.”

The pet visits are organized weekly and they usually take 1 hour. The pets are thoroughly cleaned before entering the hospital and they are kept away from other patients.
