This Man Stopped The Desert

This man is called Yacouba Sawadogo and he is an innovative African farmer. Yacouba has been traveling across the deserts for the last 30 years trying to revive the old soil conservation and  re-forestation techniques. He has been using only a shovel as a tool. The man has a firm belief that everything can be changed for the better. And the amazing results he achieved speak for themselves.

During the 1980s, Africa’s Sahel region was afflicted by a terrible drought that destroyed all that was green and verdant and reduced the rainfall by 80%, thus turning huge chunks of land into desert. To survive, most of the local people had to leave. But Yacouba stayed.
