This Man Stopped The Desert

This man is called Yacouba Sawadogo and he is an innovative African farmer. Yacouba has been traveling across the deserts for the last 30 years trying to revive the old soil conservation and  re-forestation techniques. He has been using only a shovel as a tool. The man has a firm belief that everything can be changed for the better. And the amazing results he achieved speak for themselves.

Yacouba Sawadogo can not read or write, so without access to modern gadgets or techniques, he start using the ancient African farming practice ’zai’. The farmer started planting seeds in small holes filled with compost. The holes then fill up with water during the rainy season and thus retain moisture and nutrients during the dry periods.
