Kayla Filoon is a 20-year-old student who loved to spent her free time as a dog walker volunteer at a Philadelphia animal shelter. When she saw the pit bull named Russ for the first time, she immediately felt the special connection between them. When Russ came to the shelter he was really beaten up, very skinny and missing fur on his ears and tail. The dog was just sitting calmly and staring at the volunteers.

The girl knew that she needed to act fast, to prevent the dog from being put to sleep, as most of the sick dogs were usually treated in that way. That is why on the very next day Kayla went back to the shelter and filled in all the adoption papers.

Once at her home and thanks to all her efforts, Russ felt much better. One night as Kayla was sitting on the sofa, Russ found a way to sit next to her and cuddle. She took a photo of the dog hugging her and put in on the social media, wherefrom it went viral.

The student hopes that the photo will inspire other people to adopt shelter dogs.
