Adorable Rainbow Lorikeet Kisses Koala Named Luther

A koala named Luther was caught on camera being kissed by an adorable rainbow lorikeet in Australia and everyone is loving the exchange.

The 2 animals reportedly met at the Mosswood Wildlife Sanctuary in Koroit, which is located in Southwest Victoria.

After the encounter on Thursday, the Mosswood Wildlife uploaded a series of pictures showing the moment the parrot approaching the koala and pecking him on the nose.

The pictures were shared with the caption:

The rainbow lorikeet was all about the love today. Not sure if Luther (the koala) enjoyed.

The first picture shows Luther sitting on a tree with the rainbow lorikeet next to him.

The Mosswood Sanctuary Director Tracey Wilson said that the lorikeet is a resident of the wildlife sanctuary.

They added:

The volunteer was feeding the koala and lorikeets are very out-there creatures, so it decided to have a conversation with the koala. Lorikeets are quite inquisitive, it would have been following the volunteer and thought, “what’s this other creature? It was a very hot day so I don’t think the koala would have been bothered to do anything.  I’ve even seen a lorikeet sitting on a koala’s head before.

The mother of Luther died after being hit by a car in October of last year.

As they were still a joey at that time, Luther was brought to the Mosswood Sanctuary in October of last year.

The lorikeet, who was not named, was found on the ground by a member of the public.

They were brought into the sanctuary last year.

Talking about the bird, Ms Wilson said:

The little lorikeet was raised from a teeny tiny bird. He was the third one of this particular series and we’ve never had baby lorikeets before. He missed the eight ball to be their (the other two’s) friend and they left without him so he still hangs around here. The other two even came back for him but he just stayed here.
