High-school student arrested for racist Snapchat asking why his black classmate was “not in chains”

A high-school student from Connecticut, USA, has been arrested by the police after he sent a snapchat asking why his black classmate was not in chains.

Not only that, but the student asked why there was a black person inside his classroom.

The student, who is 16 and not named, was arrested and charged with breach of peace and racial harassment on May 15, 2021.

The image went viral in the school.

The incident happened at the Fairfield Warde High School.

In the image that went viral, Jamar Medor, a 16-year-old student at the high school, could be seen sitting on a desk.

The picture had the caption: “Why is there a n***** in my homeroom? Why is he not in chains?”

During an interview with WABC about the picture, Jamar said that he had no words when he saw the picture.

He also added that he was confused about the entire thing.

Judith Medor, the mother of Jamar, talked about the incident with WABC, where she said:

I was like… oh my god. My mouth just dropped because I couldn’t believe it – how the other student would do something like this regarding my son. I don’t know what he’s going to do to my son. That’s the reason why I’m worried for his safety.

Jamar said he never experienced racism at school before this incident. However, the recent happening has affected him a lot.

The student said that he feels uncomfortable going to school or walking down the halls of the high school.

He also did not go to school after the incident happened.

The student who shared the picture on Snapchat has been suspended for 10 days.

After the incident, a petition calling for their expulsion has been launched.

Over 29,000 people have signed the petition.

The mother of Jamar also said that she is not going to rest until she finds justice for her son.

She added in the interview:

I’m not going to rest until I find justice for my son. I stand against racism, so we’re going to have to do anything in our power to stop it.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim, may they recover from their mental stress in a timely manner.
