Americans head to work at 6-7 a.m. but that is not because they wanted to. Rather, it is a habit. Their workday starts at 6 a.m. and they can get off by 2 p.m. This leaves them with plenty of time for family or hobbies in the afternoon.
The citizens of the USA love to put their feet up on tables, chairs, etc. Putting your feet on the table you eat is disgusting and not acceptable where I come from.
A firm handshake in the USA says a lot about your self-confidence and reliability. At first, I couldn’t understand why they hold my hand so tightly when greeting me. Later I asked my local friends about it. Still, despite the fact that I know the reason, I have to remind myself to do it whenever I attend official meetings, “Karina, give a firm handshake.”
Americans do not take off their shoes – they go on the street and then inside the house. That is a habit that we do not have at home – in my country when someone enters a home, he or she definitely takes off one’s shoes.
Americans often dress out of season. If you see people with shorts and open shoes in the winter or with jackets and hats in the summer – you are in America.
In USA showers are installed directly on the wall, giving you the only option to regulate the position of the shower. How do they shower the pets then?
The furniture stores in the USA sell very tall beds - they consist of a frame covered with cloth, which is called a box spring. On the top of that is placed the mattress itself.
The floors and the stairs in most of the houses are covered from one baseboard to the other one and is tucked under it. If they want to change the carpet, they have to un-install the baseboards.
Russians also love big discounts, but Americans are crazy with them – sales, deals, discounts, bonus programs... from various stores and shops. The Black Friday is the big thing here when people wait overnight at the shop entrances for some good deals.
