Researchers have discovered countless alluring relics left behind by the ancient followers of Buddhism, but there is something about this particular 1,000-year-old Buddhist statue which sets it apart from the rest. The Meander Medical Centre in the Netherlands conducted a CT scan on this statue which revealed that it serves as the final resting place for the mummy of a Chinese Buddhist monk. The mummy's organs were replaced with scrolls which identify this monk as a master named Liuquan. This curious discovery comes not long after a mummified Buddhist monk was found in Mongolia who was claimed not to be truly dead, but rather in a deep meditative trance.Liuquan’s statue is currently on display as part of the MUMMIEWORLD exhibit at Hungary’s National History Museum.
