Not all heroes wear capes, some are just k-9 officers!
A top Florida lawman has praised 2 K-9 officers after they took bullets that were meant for deputies.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said that the officers were shot by a carjacking suspect over the weekend.
They added:
There is no doubt that K-9 Ax and K-9 Endo took bullets that were meant for my deputies, because if the deputies would have gone into the woods, the first person to come into contact with [the suspect], without a doubt, would have been shot.
A Lyft driver had told the police that shortly before midnight on Friday, they had picked up a passenger and drove them to a remote area in north of Orlando.
The passenger then forced the driver out of the vehicle at gunpoint then fled.
The suspect was then identified as 21-year-old Shedrick Singleton Jr.
The stolen vehicle was later found after some time.
The suspected went hiding into a wooded area.
An hour and a half later, responding police officers spotted the suspect coming out of the woods and closed in right away.
Gunfire happened as the police tried to apprehend the 21-year-old suspect.
The police then released dramatic body camera footage that they say shows Deputy A.J. Davis and K-9 Ax approaching the suspect about 10 minutes later.
The K9 suffered a gunshot wound to his face after entering the wooded area while hunting for the suspect.
K-9 Endo on the other hand was struck multiple times too.
Both the K-9 officers were rushed to a veterinarian for treatment.
The 21-year-old suspect was also struck by police during gunfire.
They were transported to the Central Florida Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The 21-year-old is currently facing charges of armed carjacking and use of a deadly weapon against a police K-9.
