At least 32 students from California, USA are reportedly in Afghanistan and their school districts are urging the authorities to help them get back home.
According to official data, 29 students are from the San Juan Unified School District, which is around Sacramento, USA.
3 more were members of a family, who are from the Cajon Valley Union School District, which is located outside of San Diego.
On Tuesday this week, the San Juan Unified School District said that at least 29 of their students are currently in Afghanistan.
the 29 students come from 19 families and have not returned to school campuses for this year.
The Sacramento School District is home to over 1,400 Afghan refugee students.
Previously, it was believed that around 150 students were stranded in Afghanistan.
16 parents and more than 24 students that are preschoolers and high-schoolers traveled from San Diego to Afghanistan over the summer break to visit their relatives.
On Tuesday, the school district said:
One family with three students was left behind in Afghanistan, and we are exploring strategies to rescue and bring them home. The safe return of our Cajon Valley family … is our focus now.
Cajon Valley spokesperson Howard Shen said that they are currently looking into alternative strategies to get the last family out.
They have to explore other options considering that airlift is no longer an option.
The last US airplane left Kabul before midnight on Monday.
On Tuesday this week, Joe Biden, the current sitting president of the United States of America, defended the evacuations.
They also said that 19 messages had been sent to the Americans in Afghanistan since March, urging them to begin leaving the country.
Darrell Issa, a Republican Congressman, is one of the many that are working with the school districts to get the families out of Afghanistan.
On Tuesday, Darrell said:
While we have successfully helped dozens of stranded San Diegans, our work continues in order to bring the remaining families home.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the people that are currently stuck in Afghanistan, may they get through the tough times.
