Cory Chick, the region manager of the CPW Southwest Region, released a statement about the incident, saying:
Bear attacks are extremely rare. This is a tragic event and a sad reminder that bears are wild and potentially dangerous. Out of an abundance of caution, the bears were removed for public safety. We ask the public to report any encounter with an aggressive bear to CPW.
The authorities have now asked the public to stay away from the area as an official investigation is still being carried out.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim, may her soul rest in peace.
