A 80-year-old woman in Pakistan has passed away after a security guard posed as a doctor and performed surgery on her.
Shameena Begum, the woman, died 2 weeks after Muhammad Waheed Butt, a former security guard, performed the procedure on her.
It was carried out at a public hospital in Lahore, Pakistan.
Patients are required to pay towards their treatments in Pakistan even if they are at public hospitals.
A Mayo Hospital administrator in Lahore, said that they cannot keep up with what every doctor and what everyone is doing at all times considering that the hospital is really really big.
The family of Begum said that they paid for the treatment and even had 2 home visits to dress her wound.
The family said that it was unclear on what type of surgery the imposter had carried out on the elderly woman.
A qualified technician was also present at the scene when the operation was being carried out.
When she was brought back home, the bleeding and the pain worsened and she was brought back again.
This is where everything was discovered.
Ali Safdar, a Lahore Police Spokesperson, said:
The guard has been charged and is in police custody. Butt had posed as a doctor and made home visits to other patients in the past also.
The authorities have kept the body of the 80-year-old woman for an autopsy.
An official investigation has also been launched to know the cause of her death and how the man managed to get inside the surgery room.
Butt was fired 2 years ago from the hospital for trying to extort money from patients.
He was working in the second largest health facility in Pakistan at the time.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the elderly woman, may her soul rest in peace.
