Lioness dies from covid at Indian zoo and 8 others test positive

A lion in India has passed away after contracting the coronavirus at a zoo where 8 other wild cats have contracted the deadly disease.

The zoo, which is located on the outskirts of Chennai, a city in India, announced the death of the 9-year-old Asiatic Lion’s death on Friday.

The Arignar Anna Zoological Park, which is also known as the Vandalur Zoo, released a statement about the incident.

They said that Neela, the 9-year-old lioness, succumbed to the disease on the evening of June 3, 2021.

The outbreak was first observed on Thursday, when the lioness had a lot of nasal discharge.

Other animals were asymptomatic, but they have tested positive.

The animals that caught the disease have started their medical treatment and they are currently quarantined.

The animals at the zoo are currently under observation by the veterinary team of the zoo.

An expert team from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University were also sent to look over the incident.

This is not the first time animals have died after contracting the disease.

Recently, 2 white tiger cubs died after contracting the deadly virus in Pakistan, a neighbouring country of India.

In India, Hyderabad has also been through the same thing.

Last month, 8 lions tested positive at the Nehru Zoological Park.

MK Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, visited the zoo in order to look at the situation personally.
