A 24-year-old mother rushed her little one to the hospital after she found a hole in the roof of his mouth only to get told by a nurse that it’s a sticker.
Becky Stiles, who is from Essex, was left holding back the tears after she saw the sticker on the roof of her baby’s mouth.
Initially, she thought that it was as hole.
Becky said that she found the sticker as she laid the 10-month-old baby down to change his nappy.
Recalling the moment, she said:
I tried to touch it but he just screamed at me, so I made his dad rush over and see it. I’m shaking, sweating and holding back the tears. We put a torch on it and his dad said, ‘What the hell is that?’
Becky called her mother after finding the hole, the mum told her to call 111, however, her father told her to bring the youngster right to the A&E.
When she arrived at the hospital, she explained the situation to the reception and suggested that Harvey, the boy, should be checked out by a specialist as soon as possible.
A nurse was sent to check the boy, who told the mother that it was just a sticker.
Becky explained:
One nurse said let me just get my pen torch and have a look. After about 30 seconds of looking she said, ‘That’s a sticker’. Me being an idiot told her, ‘No look that’s a hole’. She put her finger in his mouth and hooked it out. I laughed, was shaking and so embarrassed.
Becky said she was a bit embarrassed by the incident, however, the medical staff just laughed about it and the baby did the same thing.
Talking about the incident, she said:
Harvey found it funny too! I told her I felt like a right prat, and that if Covid wasn’t a thing I would hug her. She replied with, ‘Well I’ve never fixed a cleft palate at A&E doors before’. We all carried on laughing as we made the walk of shame back to the car.
The thing is, the embarrassment was not over for Becky.
After the hospital, she had to call the entire family and explain what just happened.
She said:
In the car I had to swallow my pride even more and make all the phone calls again to let everyone know Harvey didn’t in fact have a hole in his mouth. He had taken a liking to stickers.
Well, she just did her job as a mother.
