Coca-Cola, the largest plastic polluter in the world, will be testing a paper bottle as part of a long-term plan to eliminate plastic from its packaging in a complete manner.
The prototype is currently being created by a Danish company.
The company is using a thin plastic liner in an extra-strong paper shell, said a report by BBC.
The goal of the company is to create a 100 percent recyclable, plastic-free bottle that is capable of preventing gas from escaping the carbonated drinks that they are making.
The bottles should also make sure that there are no fibres flake off into the liquid.
Fibre flakes in the liquid are capable of altering the taste of the drink or potentially fall foul in health and safety regulations.
The industry giants are currently trying to reach their goal, which is to produce zero waste by the year 2030.
Coca Cola is ranked number one when it comes to plastic polluter by charity group Break Free From Plastic last year.
