A father from Michigan, USA, is suing the school where his daughter goes to because they cut her hair.
Jimmy Hoffmeyer, the father, has filed a $1 million dollar lawsuit on September 14, 2021.
He said that the incident had infringed on his 7-year-old daughter’s constitutional rights.
The father also said that the incident is an example of racial discrimination from the school against the father’s mixed- race daughter.
Jurnee, the daughter of Jimmy, had her hair cut by a teacher without any prior consent given from the parents.
The lawsuit has been filed in a federal court against 2 staff members, a librarian, and a teaching assistant.
The school district is also named in the lawsuit.
The incident reportedly happened in March of this year when a classmate of Jurnee cut her hair without any permission.
Jimmy complained to the school and had to bring his 7-yerar-old daughter to a hairdresser to get an asymmetrical haircut.
However, 2 days after the incident, Jurnee came back home from the school with nearly all of her hair cut off.
The lawsuit says that the school district failed to properly train, monitor, direct, discipline and supervise their employees.
Following the incident, a third-party investigation was carried out.
The investigation found that the school did not act with racial bias.
The investigation also said that the teacher in question should only be disciplined and should still be able to keep her job.
The third-party investigation was carried out without the presence of Jurnee and her father.
