James Michael Tyler Who Played Gunther In Friends Dies Aged 59

James Michael Tyler, who played Gunther in Friends, has passed away at the age of 59.

Tyler, who played Gunther, a barista at Central Perk in Friends, passed away inside his house in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

The manager of Tyler said that he passed away on October 24, 2021.

Tyler was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2018, which had spread to his bones.

An official statement about his death said:

If you met him once you made a friend for life. [He] is survived by his wife, Jennifer Carno, the love of his life. Wanting to help as many people as possible, he bravely shared his story and became a campaigner for those with a prostate to get a… blood test as early as 40-years-old.

The family of Tyler also released a statement about his death.

They said:

The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh Friend), from the hit series Friends, but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband. Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures. If you met him once you made a friend for life.

Tyler played as Gunther in Friends, a hit sitcom show that is considered by many as the greatest show in the history of TV.

In the show, he has a long crush on Rachel, a character that is played by Jennifer Aniston.

Talking about his role in Friends, he said:

It was the most memorable 10 years of my life, honestly. I could not have imagined just a better experience. All these guys were fantastic and just a joy to work with. It felt very, very special.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Tyler, may his soul rest in peace.
