Best boss in the world?
Sara Blakely’s company, Spanx, was recently valued at $1.2 billion after an investment firm, Blackstone, bought a majority stake in it.
Some CEOs would use that amount of money on treating themselves, however, Sara doesn’t roll that way.
Instead of getting herself something, Sara decided to treat her staff.
During a celebratory party, she told her employees that they would be getting two first class tickets to anywhere they wanted in the world and $10,000.
You might think that she doesn’t have a lot of staff, but you’re wrong.
Spanx has more than 500 staff.
This means, she is giving around $5 million in cash and a lot of money for the tickets.
In the video the shared, she asked everyone why she was spinning a globe.
She then revealed:
I have bought each one of you two first class tickets to anywhere in the world. If you go on a trip you might want to go out to a really nice dinner, you might want to go out to a really nice hotel, and so with everybody’s two first-class tickets to anywhere in the world you are each getting $10,000.
Sara said that she would have never done the impossible without her staff.
She also noted that women laid a lot of groundwork for the company, which allowed her to pursue her dreams.
Sara started Spanx with just around $5,000 and hoped one day that it would be worth around $20 million dollars.
The thing is, her good deed did not stop there.
Sara has created a foundation, named the Blakely’s Red Backpack Fund, that helps female entrepreneurs.
Talking with her employees, she said:
This is a very big moment for each and every one of you, and I want to also toast the women that came before me and all of the women in the world who have not had this opportunity. So at a moment like this, I think of my mom and my grandmother and their lack of options and all the women that came before them.
Such an amazing thing to do, right?
