A poor owner from USA was left heartbroken after finding out that her missing dog was mistakenly put down by animal shelter.
Monica Lopez, a woman from Champaign, Illinois, said that Dada, her pet pitbull, vanished after he got loose.
The woman tracked down her pet dog to the Champaign County Animal Control, who told her that the pet dog was safe.
The dog owner arranged to pick up the dog on Monday last week because she was really busy during the holidays.
However, something bad happened.
Before she got there, the dog had been euthanized by mistake on Christmas Day.
In a post that the woman made on Facebook, she said:
Animal control told me they had my dog on Wednesday and that he was safe and warm but due to the holidays I couldn’t pick him up until today. They turnt (sic) around and gave me heartbreaking news that he was put down on Christmas day even tho they told me he was safe and warm. You weren’t just a regular dog.
The woman said that Dada was an angel and was her everything, calling the dog “my hear, my baby” in the post that she made.
The woman also vowed in the post that she will be taking every possible step that would help bring justice for her dog.
Darlene Kloeppel, the executive of Champaign County, confirmed the news and said that a worker had accidentally put down the pet dog of the woman.
She said that the employee was not notified about the plans that the dog would be collected by the owner of the dog.
In a statement that Darlene released, they said:
Fortunately, errors of this type are rare. While the holidays and staff vacations made this circumstance unique, additional steps in animal control procedures have been put in place to prevent any similar gaps in communication in the future.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Darlene and Dada, may the dog rest in peace.
