5 people dead, over 40 critical and dozens injured after 100 cars pile-up on Texas freeway

At least 5 people were left dead and dozens injured after 100 cars pile-up on a freeway on Texas, USA, on the morning of Thursday.

It was reported that the accident was caused by Winter Storm Shirley.

The brutal storm wreaked havoc across states in Southern America.

Firefighters rushed to the scene after cars were left on cars along the Interstate 35 near Fort Worth.

It is still unclear what started the accident, but the video shows a FedEx truck losing control on a downhill stretch of the freeway and plowing into a barrier.

The crash site stretches for 1.5 miles along the freeway and traffic was backed up for a number of miles.

It was a mass casualty incident, said the authorities.

According to a report by MedStar, an ambulance service was rushed to the ground.

The number of people in critical condition is currently between 40 and 50.

The numbers are still growing.

It is considered to be one of the worst crashes in the history of Texas, USA.

In a tweet that was made by the Forth Worth Fire Department, they said:

Multiple vehicles involved. Multiple people trapped. More details to follow.

Police Officer Daniel Segura, said:

We can confirm multiple vehicles involved and at least three fatalities. We have officers on scene and is still an active scene. Weather was probably a factor.

In another incident, 26 cars were seen crashing into each other in Austin, Texas.

It is unclear if anyone had died in that scene.
