A man from Maryland, USA, is currently being hailed as a hero for jumping into water so they could save a toddler that fell out of a vehicle during an accident.
It was reported that the 23-month-old girl fell out of the car and went straight into the bay on Sunday after the accident.
Several other people were injured in the incident, said the Ocean City Fire Department.
According to the official statement that was released on social media by the OCFD, fire and police units were dispatched to the bridge on Sunday afternoon.
They were informed that one vehicle was half over the guardrail and multiple people were injured following a collision.
The fire department added:
During the collision, one paediatric patient was ejected from the car teetering over the guardrail and landed into the Assawoman Bay.
The toddler was saved by the timely action of the man, who was not identified.
It was reported that the man saw the girl lying in the water face down, meaning, she was not swimming or getting air to breath.
Ryan Whittington, a firefighter and medic for the Ocean City Fire Department, said:
He just jumped into action. He saved a 23-month-old child. There’s no doubt in our mind that if he had not did what he did when he did it that we would be having a different headline to this story.
The hero that saved the little one said that he wishes not to be identified by the press.
It was later revealed that the man had been driving on top of the bridge and his vehicle was involved in the accident.
Without the actions of the man, the authorities said that we would be having a different news headline.
The girl was rescued by the man and was flown to the Johns Hopkins Children’s Hospital.
The 7 other people that were injured in the incident were also taken to a local hospital for treatment and observation.
