A grade 6 student was taken into custody after she was responsible for carrying out a school shooting in Idaho, USA.
It was reported that the student shot 3 people.
US Media reported that the girl, who was not named, pulled out the gun out of her backpack after arriving at her middle school.
The authorities confirmed that the incident happened at the Rigby Middle School in Rigby, Idaho, USA.
The girl reportedly unloaded several bullets in the hallway of the school.
2 students and adult got injured in the incident.
The gunshots sent students and adults running in terror.
Steve Anderson, the Jefferson County Sherriff, released a statement about the incident, saying:
During the shooting, a teacher disarmed the student and detained her until law enforcement took her into custody. We don’t have a lot of details at this time of ‘why’ – that is being investigated. We’re following all leads.
Parents were promptly called to pick up their children from a neighbouring school.
People were caught on camera in tears and in completely stress.
The 3 victims that got shot are expected to fully recover.
12-year-old Yandel Rodriguez, a student of the Rigby Middle School, told the local news agencies how scary the entire thing is.
Yandel said:
Me and my classmate were just in class with our teacher – we were doing work – and then all of a sudden, here was a loud noise and then there were two more loud noises. Then there was screaming. Our teacher went to check it out, and he found blood.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the shooting.
The police have not ruled out charging the 6th grader with 3 attempted murder charges.
The authorities are currently trying to find out how the little girl managed to get a gun and use it in the school.
Sheriff Anderson said:
This is a very difficult and trying time for our community. We’ve had amazing support from partners across the state that have arrived to not only assist in the investigation but give us support with what we need.
Chad Martin, the Jefferson School District Superintendent, said that their school is the second in the state’s history to experience a shooting.
Superintendent Martin said:
This is the worst nightmare a school district could ever face. We prepare for it, but we are never truly ready for it. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the victims and their families and all those involved. We want to especially thank our community. The vast support we have received is overwhelming, and we are grateful to live in a community that cares about their students, schools and are willing to offer that support.
