Woman Loses All Her Fingers After Dog Bite Gave Her Severe Infection

A mother was left in coma and ended up losing a bunch of fingers after a dog bite gave here sever infection, leading to sepsis.

Michelle Ellis, the woman, suffered a small wound after the family pooch bit her.

However, the woman did not think of it that much when she was bitten.

After some time, the woman developed flu-like symptoms, which lasted for a number of days.

The woman was admitted to a hospital on January 16, 2021, where doctors found out that she was having sepsis, which is the response of a body when there is a severe infection.

The organs of the woman were starting to shut down, which left the doctors with one choice, and that was to place her on life support.

The woman, a mother of 4 kids, was placed on a medically induced coma and was placed on a dialysis machine.

She is originally from Plymouth, Devon.

Relatives of the woman are now trying to raise money to aid her rehabilitation and other health costs.

The fingers of the woman had to be amputated after there was severe damage to her hands due to lack of blood and oxygen to them.

Keana, the daughter of the woman, said that their mother did not think anything about the dog bite initially.

She added:

The dog is going to be put down, but it is actually the family dog – he’s always been a little bit funny, but I think something was going on, she tried to put him in his cage and he bit her, but it was a tiny bite – around the size of a cigarette burn – so nothing was thought of it and she left it, and then this happened.

The daughter said that it has been a rough time for the family.

The little siblings of Keana have not yet been able to visit their mother due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The family was not there when she woke up from her coma earlier this month.

Keana continued:

We’re not allowed to go and visit her at the moment, which is making it a lot harder. The hardest thing is that we weren’t expecting this at all. My mind now is set on raising as much money as we can with the fundraiser and raising awareness, so that she has a good quality of life when she does get better.

The mother is expected to recover.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the woman and the mother herself, may she recover fast and be with her family.
