A hiker who got lost while hiking on a mountain the USA ignored calls from rescuers because he did not recognize the number they were using.
According to reports, the hiker got lost for 24 hours while hiking on the highest mountain in Colorado.
The authorities said that the man ignored the repeated phone calls from rescuers because they came from an unknown number.
The hiker was reported missing on October 18, 2021 after he failed to return where he was staying.
The Lake County search and rescue teams said that they repeatedly tried to contact the man through calls, texts and voice messages, however, they were all ignored.
At around 10 pm, 5 rescue members were deployed to search for the man.
The thing is, the team returned at around 3am the following morning after failing to locate the missing hiker on the 4401 metre-high (14,440ft) peak.
A second team was sent out at around 7 am the next day to search some areas.
The thing is, while they were searching, the man had returned to his place
When he was asked, the man told them that he did not pick up the calls because he had no idea anyone was looking for him and thought that they were scam calls.
The Lake County search and rescue said:
One notable take-away is that the subject ignored repeated phone calls from us because they didn’t recognise the number. If you’re overdue according to your itinerary, and you start getting repeated calls from an unknown number, please answer the phone; it may be a search and rescue team trying to confirm you’re safe!
The man was unhurt throughout the time he was being located by the local authorities.
