A man from Kerala, India, was left in complete shock when he found a passport inside the passport cover that he had ordered via Amazon.
Midhun Babu, who is from Kaniyambetta City in Wayanad District of Kerala, said he placed the order with Amazon for the passport cover on October 30, 2021.
He got the cover on November 1, 2021, and upon opening it, he was left in complete shock as a passport was also found inside the pouch.
The passport belonged to an unnamed teenager from Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district.
Babu said that he reported the incident with Amazon but they never told him what to do with the passport.
During an interview with PTI, he said:
I spent about 40 minutes speaking with three executives of customer care. But none told me what to do with an important document like a passport. Later, on advice of a friend of mine, I approached the police and surrendered the passport.
Amazon is yet to release a statement about the unusual incident.
Asmabi, the mother of the 17-year-old boy, explained what happened.
She said that the passport was found inside the pouch after they forgot to take it away while returning the pouch to Amazon.
Asmabi said that they returned the pouch as the passport was not fir for their use.
She added:
It was a mistake on our part that we forgot to pull out the passport while returning the pouch. It was meant for my husband, but as it was found unfit and was returned. However, my son’s passport was put inside the pouch and was not pulled out prior to returning it.
Before returning anything to Amazon or other e-commerce websites, please do make sure that you are checking the product that you are returning.
