A man from China passed away after they reportedly drank around 1.5 litres of Coca-Cola in just the span of 10 minutes.
The unnamed man, who is 22 years old, went to the Chaoyang Hospital in Beijing with severe stomach pains and swelling 6 hours after drinking the coke to cool himself down.
The man said that he drank the coke amidst a heat wave.
When he came to the hospital, he had rapid heart rate, low blood pressure and was breathing extremely fast.
The doctors shared the death in the Clinics and Research in Hepatology and Gastroenterology Journal.
The doctors said in the journal that the drink caused pneumatosis, an abnormal build-up of gas in the man’s intestines and portal vein.
This means that he had started to starve the support of oxygen to his liver, which caused hepatic ischemia, also known as liver shock.
This resulted in his death.
Qiang He, the lead author of the report, said that the doctor’s immediately set about trying to relieve the gas and gave him medication.
The man died after 18 hours of treatment.
The doctors did not reveal any other details about the incident or any other information about the man.
