A man from San Diego, USA, has been reunited with their wallet, which by the way was lost in the Antarctica around 53 years ago.
91-year-old Paul Grisham, a Navy meteorologist, set off for Antarctica in October 1967, where they spent around 13 months.
Paul was incharge of monitoring weather conditions as a weather forecaster at a Ross Island-based science station.
After spending some time there, Paul returned to California and leaving their wallet behind.
He did not see the wallet again for many many decades.
The wallet was then discovered in 2014 after a building at McMurdo Station was demolished.
The wallet was found behind a locker and it had a number of personal effects from the younger days of Paul when he was a weather forecaster.
Inside the wallet was his Navy ID, driver’s license, and a tax withholding statement.
The wallet did not had any notes or coins in it.
According to a report by The San Diego Union-Tribune, Paul received the wallet by mail in good condition after a number of mails, Facebook messages, and letters to track him down.
Stephen Decato and Sarah Lindbergh, a father and daughter duo from New Hampshire, were the ones that managed to trace him down.
Paul could not recall losing the wallet, however, he was grateful that he was tracked down.
He said he was just blown away with the wallet.
Talking about his time in Antarctica, he said:
Let me just say this, if I took a can of soda pop and set it outside on the step, if I didn’t retrieve it in 14 minutes it would pop open because it had frozen.
Paul has worked in Guam, Hawaii, and Japan.
Such an amazing reunion after so long!
