UN Agencies say at least 400,000 Yemeni children under 5 could die of starvation this year

At least 4,00,00 children in Yemeni could die before they even turn 5 years old this year, said 4 United Nations agencies.

The agencies said on Friday that without urgent intervention amidst soaring rates of severe malnutrition driven by war and the pandemic, those kids will be facing starvation.

6 years ago, Yemini went into war, which left 80 percent of its population reliant on humanitarian aid.

In a report that was published on Friday, the agencies of the United Nations projected a 22 percent increase in severe acute malnutrition among children under the age of 5 years old.

Nose numbers were compared to the ones they got in the year 2020.

Severe acute malnutrition means that there is a risk of death because the body is not getting enough food.

Aden, Hodeidah, Taiz, and Sanaa are one of the most worst hit areas in the country.

David Beasley, the Executive Director of the World Food Program, released a statement with the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), UNICEF, and the WHO (World Health Organization).

The statement reads:

These numbers are yet another cry for help from Yemen where each malnourished child also means a family struggling to survive.

Another 2.3 million kids under the age of 5 years old are expected to suffer acute malnutrition in this year alone.
