The government of India has announced that the coronavirus vaccine will be free for everyone in the country.
On January 2, 2020, Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan announced that the coronavirus vaccine will be provided free of cost to Indians.
The news was announced after the government of New Delhi announced that they will be offering the coronavirus vaccine for free.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan said:
In 1st phase of #COVID19Vaccination free #vaccine shall be provided across the nation to most prioritised beneficiaries that incl 1 crore healthcare & 2 crore frontline workers. Details of how further 27 cr priority beneficiaries are to be vaccinated until July are being finalised.
Dr. Harsh said that the government of India is currently prioritizing to ensure safety in the country and fighting the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Vardhan added:
I appeal to people not to pay heed to the rumours. Ensuring the safety and efficacy of vaccines is our priority. Different kinds of rumours were spread during polio immunisation but people took the vaccine and India is now polio-free.
India currently has over 10.9 million confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
Around 9.95 million people have recovered from the deadly disease and the country has reported the deaths of 150,000 people.
The statement of Dr. Harsh Vardhan comes the day India started their dry run for the coronavirus vaccination in all states and union territories.
