It is extremely hard to find such affordable housing in such times, and when you do, there is a massive catch.
19-year-old Madison Kohout was moving from Okhlahoma to Arkansas when she was searching for a 2 bedroom apartment online.
The teen said she went with an apartment right away after realizing that it was up for only $350 per month and was really clean.
The teen signed the lease without looking at it in person and moved in a couple of days later.
For a week, the teen lived there and all she saw and met were old people, after some time, she realized that she was living in a retirement community.
That happened when she noticed the retirement home sign outside her building.
During an interview with local news agencies, she said:
The first week of moving here was crazy! I was busy with finding a job and setting up my apartment, I didn’t even notice! I thought it was a bit weird that all of my neighbours were significantly older than me.
Kohout joked about the thing that happened to her in a video that she shared on TikTok.
The video was shared with the caption: “Me getting ready to move to an apartment out of state that I’ve never seen in person. And I realize I just moved myself into a retirement home.”
The video went viral right away, gathering over 3 million views right away.
The best thing about this is that she loves living in the community.
She said that her home is always super quiet because her neighbours are all asleep by the time she gets home.
She went on:
But one major perk is that I can play music whenever I want to, because some of them can’t hear. Another fun thing is, whenever I get to come home after a long day, everyone asks me how I’m doing. And just remember, if you’re struggling with rent, start your early retirement!
