Europe’s oldest person: French nun beats coronavirus on eve of 117th Birthday

The oldest person in Europe has beaten the coronavirus and will be celebrating her 117th birthday this week.

Caregivers of Lucile Randon, a French Nun, who is also the oldest person in Europe, announced the amazing news.

Lucile Randon, who took the name Sister Andre when she joined a Catholic charitable order in 1944, tested positive for the virus in her retirement home in Toulon, South France.

She was isolated from other residents on January 16, 2021 and had no severe symptoms.

When Sister Andre was asked if she was scared to have the virus, she said:

No, I wasn’t scared because I wasn’t scared to die… I’m happy to be with you, but I would wish to be somewhere else – join my big brother and my grandfather and my grandmother.

David Tavella, the spokesperson of the Sainte Catherine Laboure Retirement Home, released a statement about the health of Sister Andre.

David said:

We consider her to be cured. She is very calm and she is looking forward to celebrating her 117th birthday on Thursday.

Sister Andre is blind, however, she is very spirited.

The oldest person in Europe is going to celebrate her birthday with a smaller group of residents than usual because of the coronavirus infection risk.

Sister Andre was born on February 11, 1904.

She is the second oldest living person in the world, said Gerontology Research Group’s (GRG) World Supercentenarian Rankings List.
