A woman from England was on a holiday with her twin sister when she had to punch a crocodile in the face to save her after they were attacked.
Mellisa and Georgia Laurie, 28, were swimming in a lagoon when the incident happened.
One of them is currently in a medically-induced coma.
Melissa was reportedly dragged underwater by the crocodile as she was swimming in the lagoon, which is located near Puerto Escondido.
But thanks to her sister, she was saved.
The sister found her unresponsive and floating face down after she disappeared underwater.
The other sister dragged her back to the safety of a boat.
The thing, is the crocodile attacked again as Georgia tried to carry her twin back to the boat.
Hana, their other sister, said:
She dragged her back as the crocodile kept coming back for more – so she just started hitting it. She’d heard that with with some animals, that’s what you’ve got to do.
Georgia reportedly punched the crocodile in the head again and again.
They managed to drag her sister back to the boat, even thought the reptile came back three times.
As a result of the incident, she suffered injuries to her hands.
The woman was placed in a medically induced coma to avoid infection from the injuries that she had sustained.
A GoFundMe Page that was set up by Hana, the elder sister of the twins, said that the sister has an open wrist fracture, organ lacerations, internal bleeding, and water on her lungs.
Hana added:
He’d gone to where the crocodiles live and not the location where all legal certified sanctioned tours take place. He has been called out locally before, apparently, but that wasn’t for my sisters to know. They found out the information through their hospital.
The family is currently concerned about the hospital bills that their insurance may not cover.
A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office said that they are supporting the family of the 2 British women that are currently in a hospital in Mexico.
They also said that they are in constant contact with the local authorities.
