A woman from New York City was charged with attempted murder for pushing a woman in front of a subway train.
The woman, who is 29, was caught on CCTV pushing a woman in front of a train on October 4, 2021.
According to reports, the incident happened at the Times Square in New York City.
Surveillance video of the incident was released by the police.
On October 5, 2021, authorities arrested Anthonia Egegbara at the same subway station where she attacked the woman.
In the video, you can see Egegbara calmly sitting on a subway station bench and in just a matter of seconds, she gets up from her seat and runs towards the victim, pushing him violently.
The 42-year-old victim slammed into the train, luckily, she did not fall onto the tracks.
The police said that she hit the side of the train and was pushed backwards onto the platform.
However, the woman suffered serious injuries of her legs and her face, confirmed the police.
MTA acting chief communications officer Tim Minton released a statement, commenting on the attack.
They said:
This unprovoked attack was senseless and absurd. The city needs to provide additional mental health services to assist those who may endanger themselves and others.
The NYPD’s rapid identification and arrest in the case has allowed the subway riders of NYC safer.
The police said that this is not the first time Egegbara has taken part in criminal activity.
The 29-year-old woman has a history of criminal activity, with a variety of past charges that include grand larceny, criminal mischief, and assault.
