A mother from London and her kids drank urine for days after she was sent a dangerous fake coronavirus cure on WhatsApp.
The mother and her kids drank it for 4 straight days because she was sent messages claiming that it would cure the virus.
The mother, who was not named, said her friends and relatives forwarded the recommendations of other people.
She told investigators from the Healthwatch Central West London that she got videos on WhatsApp that were talking about how the virus could be defeated if you would drink your own urine.
As a result of the fake news, she and her children drank their own urine for 4 straight days.
She also told the investigators that messages from her friends are the primary source of any information on the ongoing pandemic.
The mother also said that vaccinations are dangerous for her family.
She also said that she believes traditional cures are the only thing that would cure and defeat the virus.
Olivia Clymer, CEO of Healthwatch Central West London and co-author of the report on people’s experience during the pandemic, released a statement about the incident.
Olivia said:
We were told of a stigma associated with contracting coronavirus, and also of the fake remedies and conspiracies shared via WhatsApp. This, coupled with a lack of trust in ‘official’ channels of information, presents a problem that needs highlighting and addressing.
The report is due to be discussed by the Westminster City Council’s adult and public health scrutiny committee.
The report will be discussed in an effort to stop the sharing of misinformation on social media.
The authorities did not release any further information about the mother and their kids along with how they are doing right now.
