A 3-year-old dog is currently looking for a forever home after his owners decided to give him up because they are now blind.
Louis, a Labrador and German Shepherd mix, was living with his family in California, USA, when he developed an eye infection.
The owners failed to get treatment for the dog until it was really, really late, and as a result, the dog had to go through surgery, where his eyes were removed.
The surgery left the dog blind and the owners ended up giving up the pet.
While still with their previous owners, the dog was struck by a car, which he survived with a broken leg, but the owners did not get any professional treatment.
The dog had his leg healed, but it was not the right away.
At one point, the owners of the dog gave Louis to a dog pound in Calexico, where he underwent through surgery to repair his leg.
Louis was then brought to the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, where was shy all the time.
Hella Tyla, the director of the Helen Woodward Animal Center, talked with People about the incident.
When people get their pets for free off of Craigslist, they don’t seem to realise that pets come with responsibilities and a monthly expense for their caretaking, including medical care. In turn, these pets will provide their owners with unparalleled love. They pay it back tenfold. It’s just devastating to see an animal treated the way Louis was treated.
After some time, the dog started to feel better about being in the shelter home, considering that there were other dogs there.
The dog was blind and had a really hard time navigating around, but with special care, the dog learned how to navigate the surroundings.
The animal center is currently finding Louis a forever home.
The dog is now available for adoption starting January 13, 2021.
What an amazing story, let’s hope Louis will get the best home and loving family.
