Tokyo Olympics chief resigns after saying women were talking too much in their meetings

The head of the Tokyo Olympics has resigned after receiving heavy backlash for their very sexist remarks on women.

Yoshiro Mori, the chief, said earlier that women were talking too much in the meetings that they were carrying out.

They are going to formally make the announcement on February 12, 2021, which is today.

He said earlier that women talk too much.

He also said that if more members, referring to female ones, were to join the Olympic organizing committee, they would have to have time constraints.

They said at the time:

If we increase the number of female board members, we have to make sure their speaking time is restricted somewhat, they have difficulty finishing, which is annoying.

After making the horrifying remarks, he apologized.

He also stated at the time that he would not be resigning.

When pressed on the matter, he said that he does not listen to women that much lately, so he does not know.

Several women later called out the former Prime Minister of Japan because of the sexist comments that they made.

Grace En-Yi Ting, an assistant professor at university of Hong Kong that specializes in feminist and queer studies in Japan, said:

If Mori had not been so highly visible representing Japan on an international stage, it’s likely that there would have been a lot more complacency regarding his remarks.

Mori will be replaced after resigning.

It is believed that Saburo Kawabuchi, the former Football Association President and Mayor of the Olympics Village, will be replacing Mori.
