Doctors in Austria amputate wrong leg of elderly man in tragic human mistake

Doctors at a hospital in Australia amputated the wrong keg of an elderly man.

The elderly man is reportedly 82-years-old.

Doctors blamed human error for the tragic mistake.

In a statement that the Freistadt Clinic released, it was revealed that the elderly patient had his right leg removed instead of the left leg.

The worst thing about this is that the elderly man still need to go through an operation to remove the other leg.

This will leave them without any legs.

According to a report by Reuters, the error was made shortly before the surgery.

The wrong leg was marked.

The clinic, which is located in the town of Freistadt near the Czech border, said:

We are deeply shocked that on Tuesday, May 18, despite quality assurance standards, the wrong leg of an 82-year old man … was amputated.

The mistake was noticed during a bandage change later that week.

The clinic added:

Unfortunately the mistake, in which the right leg was removed instead of the left, occurred as a result of a sequence of unfortunate circumstances.

The next surgery of the elderly patient has been scheduled.

The patient was also offered psychological assistance.

Norbert Fritsch, the Medical Director of the clinic, released a statement about the incident.

The statement said:

We have to find out how this failure, this mistake could happen. I would like to apologise publicly here.

The patient also had no idea that the wrong leg had been amputated.

A news media outlet from Austria said that the patient did not realise the mistake of the climic because of their illness.

The clinic has filed a complaint against themselves with the prosecutor’s office.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim, may they recover from the stress this incident has caused them.
