A group of sailors in Italy were left horrifyingly shocked after they found a fish that had the body of a shark and the face of a pig.
According to reports, the unusual looking creature was found floating atop the water when it was found by the crew.
The crewmen of a naval vessel that was anchored in Darsena Medicea, which is in the town of Portoferraio on the Italian island of Elba, were the ones that found the unusual looking shark.
The fishermen moved right away to get the strange creature out of the water.
They then found that it was extremely unusual, considering that it had the body of a shark and the face of a pig.
The thing is, they did not know that it was just a different type of shark.
The animal is actually an Angular RoughShark, which is usually found around 700 meters below the waves.
This deep shark is famously known for having a pig-faced shark and it is known to inhabit the eastern Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
The sad thing is that the Angular RoughShark is an endangered species.
It is also listed in the endangered list by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The thing is, it is endangered but people on the Italian Island of Elba said that they have seen the same shark before.
The incident reportedly happened on August 19, 2021.
The strange discovery made it on the internet, where the story went viral right away.
Yuri Tiberto, who is from the Elba Aquarium, said that it is not unusual for the angular roughshark to be spotted in the area.
It is commonly called a ‘pig fish’ because when it comes out of the water it emits a kind of grunt. In the sea of the Tuscan archipelago, so rich in biodiversity… it is not uncommon to find this fish, and I can safely say that I often receive reports telling me of ‘pig fish’ that have ended up in local fishing nets. I also tried for a period to host it in one of the tanks at the aquarium, but soon I gave up because I saw that it is a species that does not adapt to captivity.
